            here is a little history about the jeep. The Universal Jeep CJ-3B was introduced as a 1953 model by Willys-Overland, the company which had produced some 360,000 jeeps used during World War 2, and almost as many civilian Jeeps (CJ's) in the seven years since the war. 1953 was also the year Willys-Overland was sold to the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, who used the Willys Motors name until 1964. The CJ-3B was introduced as a transitional model between the flat-fender CJ-3A, and the forthcoming CJ-5, the civilian version of the M38A1. The 3B had flat front fenders, but a higher-profile hood to accomodate the F-head engine. It offered higher horsepower and torque than the 3A, and a new, quieter 4WD transfer case. Other designs were tested, including the CJ-4 with the beginnings of a rounded hood and fenders, but only a few prototypes were built

           This 1953 Willys Jeep is about to undergo a complete transformation here at Apex Auto Restoration, and we’re excited to share the journey as it unfolds. But before we dive into the work ahead, it’s worth talking about how this Jeep arrived at the shop.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When it rolled through our doors, it was definitely showing its age—but it also had a tremendous amount of character. This Jeep clearly lived a hard-working life. It spent years being used for hunting in swampy terrain, and the wear from those adventures was visible everywhere you looked. An old-school winch mounted up front hinted at the kind of work it had been put through over the decades. The body carried the scars of time as well—layers of old repairs, rust in many areas, and plenty of welding done over the years just to keep it on the road and in the woods.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Despite its rough condition, this Jeep has a story, and that’s exactly what made it worth saving.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The owner’s vision for this project is deeply personal. This Jeep represents memories from earlier years, and the goal of the restoration is to bring those memories back to life—this time with the ability for him and his wife to enjoy cruising together in a vehicle that feels both classic and refreshed.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The plan is a full overhaul to bring the Willys back to its former glory while making it far more enjoyable and reliable to drive. The build will include upgraded brakes and suspension, brand-new seating, an entirely new wiring system, and a complete overhaul of the engine and drivetrain. As the project moves forward, there will be many more improvements and upgrades along the way.

At Apex Auto Restoration, we take pride in breathing new life into classic vehicles, and our latest project—a 1964 Chevrolet C10—was no exception. What started as an aged, orange and white farm truck in need of serious attention has now become a stunning showpiece, ready to turn heads on the 2025 car show circuit.
The Beginning: A Classic with Hidden Issues
When this C10 arrived at our shop, it still had its original small block 305 engine and a 3-on-the-tree manual shift. However, years of farm life had taken their toll. Underneath the worn paint and surface rust, we uncovered severe structural damage, including hidden rust in the roof’s inner and outer front panels. Our team got to work stripping the truck down to bare metal and addressing each issue head-on.
Restoring the Body: Sheet Metal Work &amp;amp; Custom Modifications
After a full dustless blasting session, we applied an epoxy coat to protect the freshly exposed metal. The roof required extensive surgery, with both inner and outer panels being replaced to eliminate prior non-correct filler materials (and an unexpected mouse nest!). The inner fenders, core support, and hood were beyond repair, so they were swapped for brand-new replacements. The truck bed also saw major upgrades, including a new front panel and tailgate.
One standout custom touch involved relocating the gas tank from the cab to underneath the rear of the bed, with a sleek filler mount integrated into the bed floor. Additionally, we modified the cab’s back panel to provide extra legroom, ensuring a comfortable ride without sacrificing the truck’s vintage charm.
The Paint Process: A Classic Color Combination
With the bodywork perfected, we moved on to paint. The client chose a factory 1964 Chevrolet Code 507 Light Blue with a crisp glossy white two-tone—a nod to their 1955 Chevy. Achieving a flawless finish meant taking extra steps: meticulous trimming, assembling, clear coating, wet sanding (progressing from 800 to 2500 grit), and polishing to bring out the depth and gloss in the paint.
Interior and Final Touches
The C10’s interior received a complete overhaul, featuring a new wiring harness, radio, speakers, and fresh glass all around. Custom TMI seats, a center console, and matching door panels and sun visors elevated the cabin’s comfort and style. The bed was finished with a beautiful oak floor secured with hidden hardware, complemented by a custom roll pan and a tailgate check strap kit that replaced the factory chains for a cleaner look.
Underneath, the truck now rides on classic BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, with undercoating applied for durability. To complete the exterior, we installed polished trim and added a hand-laid silver pinstripe for a finishing touch.
Power &amp;amp; Performance Enhancements
While the truck’s original drivetrain remains intact for now, we made key upgrades under the hood. A new radiator, electric fan, battery, blower motor, and wiper components enhance reliability. Looking ahead, the owner plans to install Vintage Air, upgrade the steering column, swap in an automatic transmission, and enhance the powerplant for even better performance.

           , we recently had the privilege of bringing this iconic car back to life. Its journey through our shop was a testament to the precision and passion that go into every project we undertake.

           The Challenge
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This particular GTO arrived at our shop in less-than-optimal condition. While the exterior still held the timeless charm of a classic, the mechanical systems told a different story. The braking system was nearly non-functional, a critical issue for both safety and performance. Additionally, the intake manifold showed significant wear, limiting the engine’s potential and leaving the car unable to deliver the performance its owner dreamed of.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           To restore the GTO to its former glory, we focused on two key areas:

           Braking System Overhaul
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Upon inspection, we found the braking system needed extensive repairs. Many components were outdated or deteriorated beyond repair.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           We replaced the worn-out parts with high-quality, period-appropriate components. Safety was our top priority, so we made subtle upgrades to improve stopping power without compromising the car’s vintage authenticity.

           After consulting with the owner, we sourced a modern replacement gasket from the original engine builder. ensuring the GTO performed as it should.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The Results
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           With the brake system restored and the new intake manifold in place, the 1966 Pontiac GTO was ready to hit the road once again. The owner was thrilled to see their classic car not only looking as good as ever but also performing like it had just rolled off the assembly line.

           When our client came to pick up their stunning 1966 GTO, everything seemed perfect—until we heard a loud pattering noise from the exhaust during the final check. A quick investigation revealed that the exhaust header bolts had come loose.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This wasn’t on our checklist for the day, but we pride ourselves on being prepared for the unexpected. Without hesitation, we got the car on the lift, allowed the exhaust to cool to avoid burns, and tightened the bolts back into place. In no time, the GTO was road-ready, and our client drove off with a smile.
